Fashion Inspiration: Film

Hi everyone! So something a little different up on the blog today. I’ve teamed up with Molly over at Lyon Notes to do a fashion inspiration collab, she’s picked out her favourite fashion inspirations from TV and I’m covering the movie sides of things. These are my top three go-to films for inspiration…

It’s Autumn, which means re-runs of The Craft on TV and getting overly enthusiastic about Halloween and anything with a pumpkin spice scent. I don’t think there’s any other 90s character who epitomises the badass school girl than Nancy, I mean, who didn’t want to be a witch? She was the leader of the ultimate girl gang: a coven of witches, who could read minds, get revenge and kick ass with their magical powers. I know I’m not the only one who had sleepovers and spent the night chanting ‘light as a feather, stiff as a board’ expecting someone to levitate. A school girl tartan skirt with rosary beads and lace up boots, floor length crushed velvet maxi skirts, mesh long sleeve t-shirts and dark lips and eyes, no one does it quite like Nancy, but her look never seems to go out of style.

Black Sheer Shirt, SheInside / Tartan Skirt, £16, ASOS/ Lipstick in ‘Ruthless’, £8, Topshop / Spiked Choker, £13, Dolls Kill/ Jeffrey Campbell ‘Siobhan’ Shoes, £145, Motel

Almost Famous is the ultimate 70s fashion inspiration movie. The film follows an aspiring journalist, on tour with a band and their group of ‘band aids’ i.e glamorous groupies. I never took to Penny Lane’s character so much but you just have to love the clothes, and the fact Faruiza Balk is in it too (girl crush). It’s all about bell bottoms, crop tops, faux furs and flatforms. The girls over at Ette have got the 70s boho vibe nailed with their amazing bell bottoms and crochet pieces. Love!

Mono Bells, £35, Ette/ Black Mongolian Fur Gilet, £150, River Island/ Fedora Hat, £14, Missguided

A Tim Burton movie is perfect for getting you into the Halloween spirit, and what better film to watch than Beetlejuice? Lydia Deetz has always been one of my style icons with her collection of mourning hats, veils, and tulle dresses. The quintessential Little Goth Girl, we can all relate to her most memorable quotes, “I myself am strange and unusual” and “My whole life is one big dark room”, an ironic repeated line in my 15 year old angsty goth teen vocab.

Maxi Skirt, £12.99, H&M / Jumper, £18, Monki/ Floppy hat, £28, Miss Selfridge/ Lace Umbrella, £30, CBS Store /Nars Lipstick, £16, Cusp

Do you like any of these movies? Which outfit is your favourite? What are the films you go to for fashion inspiration?

Lydia Rose,
xoxo
