NARS Sheer Glow Foundation | Review

NARS Sheer Glow – £30.50

It took me a long time to decide whether I wanted to depart with the £30.50 for this foundation. Any pale skinned girl will understand my pain when it comes to finding a shade light enough, right? How many ‘001’s does it take to find something that isn’t like putting fake tan on the corpse bride?
My MAC Studio Fix in NC15 had suited me fine until the winter months rolled in, when it began to congeal and leave dry patches all over my face. As a busy uni student, I need a foundation with long durability and my Studio Fix just wasn’t cutting it.
So, I tried out a few NARS products in the morning of a trip to Birmingham, particularly interested to see how Sheer Glow faired after a day of shopping. I was immediately impressed with the professional finish the foundation gave and how it rested lightly on my skin as the hours passed by. I was matched to to the two lightest shades, ”Mont Blanc’ and ‘Gobi’. I settled on ‘Gobi’ due to its yellow pigment which has a much warmer undertone than the bone-coloured shade of ‘Mont Blanc’ which didn’t compliment my skin at all. The foundation has a brilliant range of 19 shades so there will be definitely something to suit everyone.
I went back to purchase it and was pretty gutted to have to depart with an extra £3 with a pump – I know it’s only a few quid, but nobody wants to depart with any extra pennies! Pouring the foundation out just wouldn’t be worth the spillages and waste, so I would advise to get a pump. As for packaging, the glass bottle is luxurious but I find the black lid a little impractical; it gets grubby from foundation quickly.
Minor negatives aside, this is by far the best foundation I have used. A lot of people are misled by the foundation’s name. ‘Sheer Glow’ would suggest a dewy and light coverage, but the actual finish is quite different. Personally, I wasn’t put off by the thought of a sheer foundation because I luckily don’t have much to cover up. I find MAC Studio Fix to be a fuller coverage which would suit girls looking for a heavier foundation.
It takes two generous pumps to give an all-over coverage which is medium finish but can be built up. It immediately evens my skin tone and leaves my complexion hydrated and luminous. It’s by no means a heavy duty foundation that would be any good for break outs or scarring. It’s less of a mask and more of an enhancer, which compliments without becoming dry and cakey. I would describe it as the perfect mid-point between matte and glowy, not dewy enough to make my skin oily but just enough to give an immaculate, luminous glow.
It applies effortlessly with my Real Techniques buffing brush and is perfected with Rimmel ‘Stay Matte’ powder to keep it in place. Overall, I’m extremely happy with the foundation which will definitely be a repurchase. I’ve had so many compliments on how ‘professional’ my make up looks which is definitely the effect that Sheer Glow gives.

Have you tried this? What’s your favourite foundation?

You're makeup looks amazing! I was too worried to buy a full bottle of this (as I always spend £££'s on foundations I use once) and so I ordered a sample size of the foundation. For some reason I found it drying on my skin, but after reading this I want to give it another go! xx

Thank you so much! Definitely the best way going with a sample first, it is so expensive! I've noticed a few people have said that, just go in with a really good moisturiser and primer first 🙂 x

It’s sad that this foundation doesn’t come in sachet or small bottle so that consumers can try it first. However, I was able to get my hand on this because it’s my sister’s foundation. On the contrary on what I’ve read from bloggers, this foundation isn’t drying and I love the dewy finish it gave my skin.
I’m looking forward to purchase a full bottle next week at http://www.kallony.com.ph/brand/nars/!

I just got this a few weeks ago in the shade Siberia.. Its the palest foundation I own which is great as I always find it hard to get foundations to match me perfectly.. I just really like it, but I find it does go patchy by the end of the day. Loved your review! xx

I SO want to try this but £30 just seems so much, I'm very tempted now though. A good winter skin foundation is mac studio sculpt, I'm also pale and this is one of the best I've found (especially for my dry skin). Great review & I love your pictures 🙂

I love and hate this foundation at the same time. When my skin has no dry patches, SG is lovely, and everything I have ever I wanted in a foundation. But when I get a dry patch, WATCH OUT. It clings so hard. I have to work with it. I am glad it works for you! And hope you never have my problems.

I really want to try it out!:) It's just as it goes into the 30's it seems like a little too much for a foundation however it gives that appearance of perfect skin:)x

I've never spent anymore than £10 on any piece of makeup personally, I just can't justify it! I've heard such good things about Narrs though, I might have to add to the Christmas list! Hehe.

thanks so much! it is buildable but i don't find it as high as other foundations xo

Your skin looks so flawless! I'm torn between the Nars tinted moisturizer and sheer glow! I will have to test out a few colors to make sure I get the perfect shade. It was smart to get a pump wouldn't want it to spill! xx

    • November 25, 2013 / 9:38 pm

Thanks Val! I really want the tinted moisturizer too! x

You look gorgeous! I think its so cheeky that Sheer Glow doesn't come with a pump, if they think it's a good enough idea to sell one separately then why wouldn't they just put it on in the first place. Very strange! Anyway, you look lovely and the finish suits you so much x

I love the eye makeup you have on and that lipstick is also gorgeous.

I loved nars sheer glow when I fort purchased it but after a year of wear I find it to be a little too expensive as it doesn't last particularly long on the skin:( I also find it goes extremely cakey when you apply a lot and sticks to dry patches of skin! It's such a shame because I adore the finish of it and it feels really light on the skin! Looks lovely on you though ! Xxxxx

    • November 25, 2013 / 9:40 pm

aw that's such a shame – i didn't have that at all! maybe try a mac one 🙂 xo

I have been contemplating whether to buy this or not for a long time. Do you reckon it would be good for oily skin, but with dry partches in cold weather? Nice review, you made me want to go to the store and purchase it already.. If it's worth the money, I wouldn't mind investing! A good foundation is hard to come around.. xx

    • November 25, 2013 / 9:41 pm

I think so if you make sure to moisturise! I would say our skin type is the same from what you have described and I love it! xo

    • November 25, 2013 / 9:41 pm

I thought mont blanc was the lightest shade haha!! xo

  15. November 20, 2013 / 9:48 pm

I've never tried any NARS foundations.. it looks lovely on you:)

I HEART this foundation. I'm quite dark and it's difficult to find a foundation for my skin tone. I've been through bottles of foundation yet find myself coming back to this one, time and time again!

I'd actualy cry if NARS decide to discontinue this!
