Benefit Lollitint * – £24.50
When I first received this lovely gift from Benefit I had two initial reactions: 1) “This is the cutest thing ever” shortly followed by 2) “Oh God… How is this going to go on my face?!” I’m sure many of you will share my phobia of bright cheek colours. ‘High Beam’ is a beauty bag staple for me as it’s perfect for pale complexions and something which runs no risk of giving a ‘clown-ish’ finish. Not much of a risk-taker when it comes to colour, I was extremely excited to try out something which I wouldn’t normally be brave enough to purchase myself.
Described as ‘candy-orchid’, the ‘Lollitint’ is a sweet lavender-pink which either gives a gentle doll like flush to the cheeks or can be built by braver girls for a more intense fuchsia finish. The first thing you need to know is that this little bottle packs some intense staying power. It looks flawless throughout the day but the intensity of the pigment means that you need to blend quickly. Application is incredibly simple, you simply dab it on the apples of your cheeks and blend with your fingers. A stippling brush will give the best finish but fingers work perfectly, too. The risk you run with this is a block colour which you definitely don’t want. Less is more is definitely true when working with Lollitint, make sure you have some tissues on hand and only use a few small strokes on your cheeks. You can always build it up if you’re not satisfied with the results but taking the product off is a lot more difficult!
What’s great about using a tint rather than a powder product is that you don’t have to worry about correcting it throughout the day as its staying powder is infallible. It will suit a whole range of skin-tones and can be adapted to a variety of make-up looks. It works best for me if I apply it effect when my tinted moisturiser hasn’t quite sunk into so that blending is particularly easy. I apply the product quite generously then go in with my NARS concealer just to tone it town slightly. I also blend it with concealer on the tops of my cheekbones just so that everything looks natural and there are no obvious lines. It looks particularly amazing with a highlighter if I’m wanting to look more put together or for nights out. The combination of a candy tint and glittery highlighter is just so pretty! I wasn’t initially impressed with the product as a lip-tint, but after building it up with a few layers, I really like the finish. I would definitely recommend lightly tracing your lips with a liner just to give more definition. It is incredibly versatile, if you want a gentle lip stain for day time it works, or if you want to wear it over a lipstick as a gloss or build up that looks great, too.
Overall I am absolutely smitten with the cuteness of ‘Lollitint’ and have loved experimenting with it. Would you try this? What’s your favourite way to wear it?
